NOW RECRUITING YOUTH INTERNS FOR SUMMER 2024
The Children’s Services Council of Leon County (CSC Leon) is excited to announce its summer youth internship program in collaboration with “North Florida Worlds of Work.” The program is designed to provide mature youth with an opportunity to develop workforce-ready skills through a paid summer internship that pairs real-world work experiences with life-skill development training and workshops.
THE FINER DETAILS FOR YOUTH
To take advantage of this opportunity, youth must be:
- 15-19 years old
- A full-time Leon County resident
- Enrolled in secondary school (high school) or recently graduated
- Able to commit to a 6-8 week placement during summer 2024
- Available to attend the mandatory pre-service orientation and training June 3-7, 2024 AND “graduation” program on August 8, 2024
If selected, each youth will be matched with a local business or nonprofit organization for 16-22 hours a week during the summer. Youth will receive “pre-service” leadership training with their peers before their placement begins. Youth are responsible for organizing transportation to and from the jobsite and trainings and are expected to complete periodic surveys of their experience and an “end-of-summer” presentation to their peers.
Benefits of Participation include:
- $14-15 per hour for 18-22 hours per week for 8 weeks
- Leadership & life skills training (e.g., financial literacy, resume writing, professional communications, etc.)

THE FINER DETAILS FOR PARTNERS
CSC Leon is seeking businesses and nonprofits interested in serving as a potential jobsite and host for selected Leon County youth. Expectations include:
- Design and submit for approval a position description that meets the expectations listed below:
- Project based with learning goals structured into the experience
- A work/learn exchange between the intern and business
- Opportunity for intern to learn all aspects of the workplace
- “Busy work” (such as filing, errands, covering phones, etc.) does not exceed 20% of the intern’s time
- Work does not pose extraordinary risk to youth (for full list of child labor regulations, visit: https://youth.gov/youth-topics/youth-employment/rules-and-regulationsyouth-employment)
- Set a weekly schedule with 18-22 hours between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., with no single shift exceeding 8 hours
- Expected weeks of service are 6-7 weeks between June 10 – August 2, with some time off around July 4.
- Provide regular supervision for each intern hosted at the jobsite
- Approve weekly timesheets for each intern hosted at the jobsite
- Meet biweekly with internship coordinator to assess program placement performance
- Complete program survey at conclusion of program
CSC Leon will cover all salary costs, taxes and insurance for each youth placement. CSC Leon does not require a Level II background screening or any other “pre-service” qualification. If you require that, please plan to cover those expenses.
For each successful placement and internship completion, CSC Leon will issue a one-time stipend of $250 to the host business or nonprofit organization.
