Leon County’s future workforce is sitting in today’s high school classrooms.
Preparing that workforce is not the responsibility of schools alone. It requires intentional investment from businesses, community leaders, and partners willing to create meaningful, real-world opportunities for young people. Summer provides a critical window to do exactly that.
The CSC Leon Summer Youth Internship Program exists to ensure students gain more than a paycheck. It connects them to mentorship, professional networks, and hands-on experience that build confidence and clarify career pathways.
In 2025, the program delivered measurable results for both students and employers.
Forty-seven students completed paid internships with 33 local businesses across Leon County. Interns worked an average of 147 hours, earning an average of $2,145 for the summer. One hundred percent of participating students rated the experience as good or excellent and reported feeling better prepared for future employment. Among business hosts, 93.8 percent reported their intern met or exceeded expectations, frequently noting growth in communication skills and confidence as the summer progressed.
Eight interns also earned the Florida Ready to Work Soft Skills Certificate, demonstrating proficiency in professionalism, teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Now, CSC Leon is preparing for Summer 2026.
Applications are open for high school students seeking a structured, paid summer internship and for local businesses and organizations interested in serving as host sites.
The Summer Youth Internship Program is designed to do more than provide employment. It strengthens workforce pathways, supports economic mobility, and builds the relationships that help young people see a future for themselves right here in Leon County.
