After almost two hours of discussion, the Leon County Children’s Services Council unanimously voted for a property tax rate of .375 mills. The maximum tax the CSC was allowed to levy was 0.5, or half of a mill. The tax amount will vary depending on how much a person’s property is worth.
On Thursday, ten council members were sworn in after 66-percent of voters in Leon County said they wanted the Children’s Services Council.
The CSC provides children with early learning and reading skills, development, treatment, preventative and other rehabilitative children’s services. The council has the power to distribute tax revenue to maintain services benefitting children in the county. The amount of tax revenue distributed is expected to be $8 million.
