On Tuesday, December 3, we hosted the second annual CSC Leon Family Book Fair at the Cross Creek Family Resource Center. The event brought together families from across the community for an evening of play, reading, and connection.
Thanks to the incredible collaboration of our partners, the Family Book Fair was a success! Families explored valuable resources from New Worlds Reading and Whole Child Leon, discovering practical strategies to foster a love of reading at home. Children engaged in hands-on activities while caregivers completed early childhood developmental screenings provided by 2-1-1 Big Bend’s Help Me Grow program, helping ensure children are reaching important developmental milestones.
Families also connected with the Family Resource Centers of Leon County team, managed by Children’s Home Society of Florida, to discover year-round services and supports available to them in Tallahassee. Every family left with free, age-appropriate books generously provided by Midtown Reader, sparking a love for storytelling and literacy. To top off the evening, families enjoyed a delicious take-home meal provided by Piesanos Stone Fired Pizza, making the event even more memorable. (We are still drooling over the garlic knots!)
A special highlight of the evening was the presence of local children’s book author and “celebrity” reader Ms. Ashley Scott and her daughter Zoey. Together, they delighted attendees with a reading of their book, Zoey Goes to the Zoo, and gifted copies to families, creating a memorable experience for young readers.
Events like the Family Book Fair show how our community can come together to make a real difference for children and families. With the support of our partners and everyone who joined us, we’re making meaningful investments to put our kids first. This event is just one way CSC Leon is putting your dollars to work, creating opportunities that help children in Leon County thrive.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Family Book Fair an event to remember! We look forward to seeing you at future events.
